Treating ATHLETE'S FOOT and Other Fungi
By JC Shannon
School is in session and our children are once more involved in various sports like football and soccer. ATHLETE'S FOOT is one of the most common complaints from those young sportsmen, as is jock itch. Because ATHLETE'S FOOT is so contagious, your first concern should be treating it as quickly as possible. Since they are both fungi, the best thing to do is dry the problem area out and keep it clean. Whenever possible, let a pair of shoes dry out for 24 hours before wearing again. Also wear clean socks and underwear every day. When playing sports, use a fresh pair of socks while playing and change to clean ones after showering. While this does increase your laundry loads, it, more importantly, helps avoid more fungus problems.
There are also several treatments using essential oils that will help you. Tea Tree oil is the best essential oil for rashes and fungi because it is antiseptic, antiviral and, most importantly in this case, anti-fungal. It is also safe to use neat, or full strength, on even the most delicate parts of the body.
Lavender oil shares many of the same properties of Tea Tree oil and they can be used together in any treatment.
The following are a few recommendations in treating ATHLETE'S FOOT and jock itch:
ATHLETE'S FOOT Bath
6 drops Tea Tree
4 Drops Lavender
2 drops Sandalwood
2 gallons warm water
Mix well and soak feet for at least 20 minutes.
The Sandalwood is added because it conditions and soothes sore, cracked feet and toes.
Anti-itch Foot Bath
Blend together:
10 drops Lavender
12 drops Tea Tree
Add:
5 drops blend
1 quart water
1 cup salt
Mix well. Soak feet for 20 minutes.
Foot Spray
4 drops Lavender
2 drops Peppermint
2 drops Rosemary
4 drops Tea Tree
1 quart water
Put in spray bottle and spritz feet after they have been cleaned and dried. This will help in the treatment of ATHLETE'S FOOT as well as eliminating many of the nasty odors combined with foot problems. The Peppermint will help with cooling the burn of the fungus and the Tea Tree and Lavender work hardest at killing the fungus.
Treating the inside of sneakers and cleats will also help avoid worse problems, as well as eliminating odors.
Shoe Freshener
7 drops Lavender
5 drops Tea Tree
3 drops Peppermint
1 tablespoon. baking powder
Add drops to powder. Stir gently to spread the oils completely through the powder. Store in a container with a shaker top. Evenly coat insides of shoes with powder overnight. Be sure to empty powder from shoes before wearing. Use treatment 3-4 nights in a row. Repeat when necessary.
When treating Jock Itch, the following remedy is best:
2 drops Tea Tree in a bowl of warm water. Wash affected area and dry off completely.
Then blend:
1 drop Tea Tree
1 teaspoon. FCO (Fractionated Coconut Oil)
Apply to area. Repeat morning and night for 5 days.
Always remember, fungi thrive in warm moist areas. To kill them and keep them from returning, keep the area as clean and dry as possible and treat with 100% therapeutic grade essential oils. The fungi don't like the oils anymore than they like dryness. Those two things will solve most, if not all, of your fungus problems. Here at Rocky Mountain Oils, we provide the high quality, therapeutic grade oils you need to treat the personal fungus problems we all run into at one time or another.
