Traditionally the gum was used by the Egyptians for the embalming process. It is an analgesic, antiviral, antiseptic, antimebic, fungicidal, general regulatory tonic (fortifying), and stimulant (stomachic, glandular). Beneficial for aged skin, infected cuts and wounds, inflammation, chronic conditions, fungal growths, cooling and drying, gangrene conditions, various ulcers, rejuvenation, wrinkles, bronchitis, catarrhal conditions, and coughs. Eases congestion and controls excess mucus. Strengthens immune system, particularly at the start of an illness, and generally fortifies the body. Helps with diarrhea, ulcers, spasmodic intestinal colitis, and amoebic infections. Stimulates thymus gland and helps against nervous exhaustion and stress. Aromatic influences: grounding and joyous, instills peace, centering, balances both the upper and lower chakras, visualization, and helps reach deep hidden emotions (would be good to use with Katalina). It is closely related to the trees yielding myrrh and frankincense. Caution: there is a possible cross sensitivity to Balsam of Peru.
