Ylang Ylang Extra Essential Oil (Cananga odorata) is also commonly known as Macassar. Ylang Ylang Extra Essential Oil has a medium-strength intensely sweet, fruity floral, and rich aroma presenting a middle-base fragrance note.
Ylang Ylang Extra Essential Oil is included as part of the Rocky Mountain Oils Mood, Skin Care, and Sleep collections. The oil, often used in perfumes, should be used sparingly as a little goes a long way. Diffuse the oil alone or in a blend to help bring harmony to your life, along with feelings of peace. The balancing oil complements meditation and also can be used in daily skin care products, including soaps and detergents.
Ylang Ylang Extra’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with slightly fruity undertones. Its scent is the sweeter of the two. It has been distilled for about two hours, and the scent is slightly different than Ylang Ylang Complete.
Ylang Ylang Complete vs Ylang Ylang Extra
Ylang Ylang Extra’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with slightly fruity undertones. Its scent is the sweeter of the two. Extra is considered to be the most therapeutic of the two. It has been distilled for about 2 hours and the scent is slightly different than Ylang Ylang Complete
Ylang Ylang Complete’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with herbaceous undertones, giving it a lighter scent than Ylang Ylang Extra. It has been distilled for 6-20 hours. This one is a favorite to use in blends.
When distilling Ylang Ylang, the first portion extracted is slightly therapeutically superior and has a unique smell. This first portion we call “extra” and it requires only 2 hours of distillation. However, the Ylang Ylang must be distilled longer to extract all of the therapeutic constituents from the plant. The first few hours of the distillation process create the Ylang Ylang Extra while the the full distillation, anywhere from 6-20 hours, creates the Ylang Ylang Complete, because it is a complete distillation of the plant matter.
