Is your Balsam of Peru thick?
Many components play a part in the viscosity (thickness) of an oil. Thicker oils typically come from the resin or root of the tree. Some oils grow thicker and more potent as they age. Because essential oils are extracted from living plants that do not follow an exact chemical formula or an exact growing pattern, each batch of the same oil can vary as well.

If you’re having problems with your oil dropping from the bottle, here are some quick tips:

1. Droppers typically work best when held horizontally (to the side) instead of vertically (upside down).

2. Warm the bottle by holding in hands, or by placing in a bowl of warm water. (To prevent damaging the label, put the bottle in a ziplock bag before placing in water.)

3. Widen the holes on the orifice reducer with a sterile pin.

4. Take the orifice reducer off of the bottle and use a pipette.

Tips:

  • Balsam of Peru is a highly viscous oil; use a euro dropper or warm it in your hand before use.

  • Use Balsam of Peru as an alternative to vanilla in your diffuser blends.

  • Use as a fixative for DIY soaps, creams, lotions, and ointments

  • Use in an aroma inhaler for direct inhalation to help calm the nerves and provide emotional balance

Calming Bath

Combine all ingredients. Add to a warm/hot bath and soak for 20 minutes. For additional comfort, dissolve oils in 1 cup Epsom or Sea Salt and add to bath water.

Red Hot Lip Scrub

In a bowl, mix all ingredients together thoroughly. Store in a small container with a tight lid. To use, apply a small amount of mixture to your lips with your finger and scrub in a circular motion. Rinse off completely.

I made a salve for a skin rash on my elbows with Balsam of Peru including coconut oil and Beeswax. I like the light vanilla scent. It did help with my rash. The oil is very thick, even after inserting the bottle in hot water. My only option was to take off the plastic dipper and add the drops I needed to my salve. I don’t think I will diffuse this oil because I don’t want it to clog up my diffuser. Otherwise I will buy again when I run out of it.

Heavenly vanilla scent
This "oil" has a heavenly vanilla scent. It is very solid and can stain so beware! It's more of an emulsion than an oil.

Very thick, but once warmed up,it is easy to work with. I wasn’t sure about the fragrance initially, but the more I smell it, the more it has grown on me. The smell to me is kind of an earthy Vanilla - quite unique.

Delightful vanilla smell
Balsam of Peru lives up to its description. Pleasing vanilla smell will be very nice in body butters and lip balms that I make. Thank you for the education, RMO!

Great oil
It smells divine. It is quite thick but it does say that in the description. I have found that it can be mixed into a blend of oils to make it a little more thin. Worth the price

How do you get it out of the bottle? It is so thick I can't even get a drop of it out. I've tried warming it with my hand and it isn't budging.

BEST ANSWER: Great question!

If you’re ever having problems with your oils dropping from the bottle, here are some quick tips:
1. These droppers also work best when held horizontally (to the side) instead of vertically (upside down).
2. Warm the bottle by holding in hands, placing in a bowl of warm water (to prevent damaging the label put the bottle in a ziplock bag before placing in water)
3. Widen the holes on the orifice reducer with a sterile pin
4. Take the orifice reducer off of the bottle and use a pipette.

Thanks!
