Tea Tree Essential Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) is also commonly known as Melaleuca. Tea Tree Essential Oil has a medium-strength fresh and herbaceous aroma presenting a top-middle fragrance note.

We included the versatile Tea Tree Essential Oil as part of the Rocky Mountain Oils Wellness and Skin Care collections. Tea tree is a strong yet gentle oil to use in skin and hair care routines. Use the oil in natural DIY cleaning products, including surface cleaners and soaps. Diffuse tea tree oil to help purify the air.

Tea Tree vs Niaouli (Melaleuca)

  • Tea Tree’s aroma is fresh, medicinal, earthy, and herbaceous. Tea Tree is stronger than Niaouli and may not be as suited for sensitive skin. Tea Tree is safe for children 2+ when properly diluted.

  • Niaouli’s aroma is sharp, medicinal, slightly sweet, and citrusy. Its scent comes across more sweet and medicinal than Tea Tree’s. Niaouli is more mild than Tea Tree and can be used on more sensitive skin when properly diluted. Niaouli is not recommended for children under 10.

refreshing fragrance
This has a nice crisp scent. Sometimes I feel a nice tingle in my nose when I breathe the scent in while using my diffuser, but otherwise nothing else too wild.

Thank you for distinguishing between tea tree an malaleuca
I don't know why doterra thinks these are the same thing, but they're not. They have similar terpene profiles and are morphologically similar, but they are different plants with different benefits/risks.

Great for laundry use
We were having trouble with our front loader washing machine smelling musty. I had read a suggestion online about using tea tree oil to remedy this. It really worked. It is a bit medicinal smelling...but I don't mind that at all. That smells so much healthier in my opinion. Just put 7-8 drops of the oil in the detergent dispenser and run a hot water cycle through the machine.

Can I deluge with water and spray plants to deter bugs?

BEST ANSWER: I have never used it in that way, however, I would think it would be an excellent bug repellent. I would just use it diluted on 1 plant to start with. Best of
