Myrrh Essential Oil Uses

Like Frankincense, Myrrh oil (Commiphora myrrha) is extracted from resin that oozes from very tough bark. It has a sharp, strong, woody scent. Ancient Greek soldiers used to carry Myrrh oil into battle for psychic protection, as well as first aid.

Combines well with:

Frankincense, Sandalwood, Cypress, Juniper Berry, Red Mandarin, Geranium, Patchouli, Thyme, Peppermint, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Lavender, Pine, Pine Needles, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Ginger Root, Nutmeg, Coriander, Cardamom, Lemongrass, Palmarosa, Elemi, Rose, Rosewood

About Myrrh

  • Has common features with Frankincense because they share the same botanical genus.
  • Was long used in perfumes, which seems odd. But the woody, balsamic scent works well as a base for perfume blends.
  • Good for all skin types.
  • Creates a feeling of inner peace and tranquility.
  • Encourages deep breathing, enhances meditation.

How to Use Myrrh

  • For deep breathing, diffuse 2 drops Myrrh and 3 drops Cedarwood. Inhale deeply.
  • Vaporize or diffuse 2 drops Myrrh and 3 drops Clove Bud to ease mental fatigue.
  • Massage 1 drop Myrrh into fingernails, 3 times a week. Follow with a little Shea Butter. Only use 3 times a week. Daily use can turn the nails yellow.

*Please note: With any recipes involving bath or massage blends, always test on a small part of your skin first before using all over your body. Please be sure your skin can handle the blend before being covered in it.

Other Suggestions

Here is what our RMO family members are saying about it on Facebook:

  • "It puts me to sleep."
  • "Myrrh oil is the best to strengthen and keep cuticles healthy. But only 3x/week. More than that it can start to stain the nails. Can use it neat. The Myrrh is still the best for over all nail health. It also helps if you have dry cracking cuticles. (I have been a nail tech for 20 yrs., National Trainer for a nail company and avid essential oil user.)"
  • "I use it on my finger and toe nails to strengthen them and keep my cuticles from drying out and splitting. It works really well!"
