Myrrh Essential Oil

Commiphora myrrha | Essential Oil
Availability: In Stock

Myrrh Essential Oil (Commiphora myrrha) is also commonly known as African Myrrh, Herabol Myrrh, Somali Myrrhor, and Common Myrrh. Myrrh Essential Oil has a medium-strength rich, balsamic, warm, and earthy aroma presenting a base fragrance note.

We included Myrrh Essential Oil as part of the Rocky Mountain Oils Skin Care and Mood collections. Myrrh oil may provide a slight cooling effect on the skin, and it’s also great to help preserve that youthful glow when applied topically.

Add to a diffuser or aroma inhaler in meditation settings to bring a sense of calm to the mind, while enhancing inner peace. Myrrh is also a wonderful oil to use when you feel emotionally stuck.

Botanical Name: Commiphora myrrha
Country of Origin: Somalia
Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
Plant Part: Resin
Aroma: Woodsy, Earthy
Consistency: Medium to Thick
Blends Well With: Cedarwood, Cucumber Seed, Frankincense, Lavender, Neroli, Rose, Sandalwood, Ylang Ylang

Is your Myrrh thick? Many components play a part in the viscosity (thickness) of an oil. Thicker oils typically come from the resin or root of the tree. Some oils grow thicker and more potent as they age. Because essential oils are extracted from living plants that do not follow an exact chemical formula or an exact growing pattern, each batch of the same oil can vary as well.

If you’re having problems with your oils dropping from the bottle, here are some quick tips:

1. These droppers also work best when held horizontally (to the side) instead of vertically (upside down).
2. Warm the bottle by holding in hands, placing in a bowl of warm water (to prevent damaging the label put the bottle in a ziplock bag before placing in water)
3. Widen the holes on the orifice reducer with a sterile pin
4. Take the orifice reducer off of the bottle and use a pipette.

  • Myrrh can have a slight cooling effect on the skin
  • Diffuse to bring a sense of calm to the mind
  • Enhance inner peace- this is a great oil to use while meditating

I had not used the myrrh oil for weeks and decided to use it today. I had a hard time opening the bottle cap and my husband finally got it opened. I attempted to use a damp cloth to clean the edge of the bottle so I would not have trouble opening the bottle next time. It is really difficult to get the oil built up off. Any advice? Can I use rubbing alcohol?

BEST ANSWER: Using a damp hot towel, carrier oil or vinegar an be used to assist in cleaning the rim of the bottle. Thanks!

Is this food grade?
Lori T on Dec 19, 2020

Our Essential oils are not certified as “Food Grade” at this time. Food grade oil, refers to oils that can be used in food such as Olive oil, Canola oil, Vegetable oil, macerated oils, linseed oil, as well as some mineral oils.

Our essential oils are used for their therapeutic properties to support the health and wellness of the body. The best ways to receive support from essential oils is by topical application, and diffusion.
