Ylang Ylang Complete Essential Oil (Cananga odorata) is also commonly known as Macassar. Ylang Ylang Complete Essential Oil has a medium-strength intensely sweet, floral, and rich aroma presenting a middle-base fragrance note.

Ylang Ylang Complete Essential Oil is included in the Rocky Mountain Oils Relief, Mood, and Skin Care collections. The oil, often used in perfumes, has a strong aroma. Diffuse the oil alone or in a blend to help bring harmony to your life, along with feelings of peace. The balancing oil complements meditation and can be used in daily skin care products, including soaps and detergents.

Ylang Ylang Complete’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with herbaceous undertones, giving it a lighter scent than Ylang Ylang Extra. It has been distilled for about 15 hours.

The essential oil Ylang Ylang is distilled in “fractions” (oil is taken off at different stages based on time). The difference in the grades extra, 1, 2, 3, and complete are based on the amount of time spent in the distillation process. The different grades do not indicate the quality of the oil—rather, the difference in aroma and constituents. The first fraction extracted is called “extra” and it requires about two hours of distillation. The aroma is sweeter and fruity and contains more esters. The full distillation, that takes about 15 hours, creates the Ylang Ylang Complete, with a rich, herbaceous aroma that has more sesquiterpenes.

Ylang Ylang Complete vs Ylang Ylang Extra

  • Ylang Ylang Extra’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with slightly fruity undertones. Its scent is the sweeter of the two. Extra is considered to be the most therapeutic of the two. It has been distilled for about 2 hours and the scent is slightly different than Ylang Ylang Complete

  • Ylang Ylang Complete’s aroma is intensely sweet, floral, and rich with herbaceous undertones, giving it a lighter scent than Ylang Ylang Extra. It has been distilled for 6-20 hours. This one is a favorite to use in blends.

When distilling Ylang Ylang, the first portion extracted is slightly therapeutically superior and has a unique smell. This first portion we call “extra” and it requires only 2 hours of distillation. However, the Ylang Ylang must be distilled longer to extract all of the therapeutic constituents from the plant. The first few hours of the distillation process create the Ylang Ylang Extra while the the full distillation, anywhere from 6-20 hours, creates the Ylang Ylang Complete, because it is a complete distillation of the plant matter.

fantastic
This is a great oil for skin and mood; I really love it. It IS very intense in smell -- a bit pepper-y even. But mixed with other things or diffused, it is heavenly!

Five Stars only for quality
I really want to love Ylang Ylang, but it's just too sweet for me. So, as far as the odor itself, I just don't like it. But I will say that I'm impressed with the quality and strength of this oil. I have diffused it with frankincense and orange, like 5 drop each and ONE drop Ylang Ylang. I can still smell it a little too strongly, but it makes it more tolerable, and for the benefits I'm going to see if I get used to it (I have gotten used to and actually enjoy other oils I didn't like at first and now love, so I figured it deserves a chance;) If you like Ylang Ylang RMO will not disappoint.

What are the differences between the Two Ylang Ylangs that you carry?
Tami L on May 26, 2017
BEST ANSWER: When Ylang Ylang is first distilled, the first portion extracted is slightly superior in its therapeutic properties and has a unique smell. This first portion we call “extra” only requires two hours of distillation. However, the Ylang Ylang must be distilled longer to extract all the therapeutic components from the plant. The first few hours of the distillation process create the Ylang Ylang Extra while the the full distillation, from six to twenty hours, creates the Ylang Ylang Complete. The final product is a complete distillation of the plant matter.
Why is Extra considered more therapeutic if the Complete is distilled longer to 'extract more of the therapeutic properties'?
