5 Gratitude Prompts for Positive Thinking

“The more grateful I am, the more beauty I see.” — Mary Davis

Expressing gratitude is an important part of emotional wellness, as it is used to express appreciation for your feelings, experiences, relationships, and more. Unfortunately, many people overlook the importance of gratitude and instead emphasize the negative aspects of their lives. To overcome this bad habit, we invite you to join us in cultivating a more positive outlook on life through the practice of daily journaling.

Journaling is the act of writing out your thoughts and emotions in order to better understand the deep emotional connection you have to your body, mind, and spirit. This expression of writing allows you to reflect on your feelings and experiences in order to gain a deeper control over the way your body and mind react in unexpected, stressful, and unsettling situations. And the best part? You can begin journaling at any time — All you need is a pen and a notebook!

To help you get started on your own wellness journal, here are 5 journaling prompts for gratitude, as well as some tips and tricks on how to make the most out of this introspective exercise.

5 Journaling Prompts for Gratitude

To begin, copy down and answer each of the following prompts in your journal. Challenge yourself each time you journal to give new and unique answers to these questions.

  1. Write down 3 things you are grateful for. Why?
  2. Name 3 people you admire, and why.

  3. What is something nice you did for another person this week?

  4. Write down one dream or goal you have, and why it is important to you.

  5. What is something that makes you happy? Write down a way you can include this happiness in your life within the next 3 months.

Our Journaling Recommendations

Schedule Time to Write

To get the most out of your journaling exercise, we recommend setting aside some time each day to write. By intentionally taking time out of your day to write down your thoughts, you not only allow your mind to prepare for some much-needed introspection, but you are also forming a long-lasting habit that your mind will thank you for. Our recommended times to write are first thing in the morning or right before bedtime.

Make it Your Own

Whether you use a journal, notebook, or a digital document to record your thoughts, take some time to add some of your own personality and flair to make it your own. If you want, try customizing your journal with drawings, stickers, or photos that bring you happiness or peace. Including your own unique personal touch can help you feel more connected and open with your journal in future writing sessions.
