When you are enjoying a warm summer evening or exploring the great outdoors, the last thing you want to worry about is getting a bug bite. But if you hate the smell of traditional bug spray or want to avoid using DEET, then our Bug Away Neat blend is just what you need.

Bug Away is a specially crafted blend of Citronella, Cedarwood Atlas, Lavender, Lemongrass, and Thyme, a combination of oils that is designed to help keep pesky bugs away from you and your family. Although Bug Away smells citrusy and fresh to us, bugs can't stand it! Each essential oil in this blend has powerful insect repellent properties, and together, they create a blend that makes it easy for you to avoid bug bites in a safe and natural way.

This Bug Away blend offers the same best-selling formula in our Kids Collection, but in a neat (undiluted) blend. This makes it perfect for creating your own DIY natural bug spray, or for diffusing around the picnic table or campsite. Although Bug Away is designed to help prevent mosquitoes and insects from biting your skin, it may also help deter bugs from invading your outdoor living space when diffused or sprayed around your tent.

Bug Away contains pure Citronella, Cedarwood Atlas, Lavender, Lemongrass, Thyme essential oils.

Tips

  • Dilute and apply topically to repel insects while you are outside.
  • Diffuse around the picnic table or campsite to help keep bugs away.

Basic Bug Repellent Spray

  • 4oz spray bottle
  • 2oz of a base such as witch hazel, vodka, distilled water
  • 1 teaspoon of a carrier (JojobaFCO, Aloe Vera Gel)
  • 45 drops essential oil

Add the base, carrier oil, and Bug Away to the spray bottle. Shake well before each use. To use, spray the mixture directly onto clothes and exposed skin to repel insects.

*This is a water-based recipe with no added preservatives so we recommend creating small batches as needed as the shelf life is between 1-2 weeks. Keep in a refrigerator when not in use.

Neat blends are not diluted. Dilute before using topically.

Kids Safe: Safe to use on children ages 2 years and older, when properly diluted.

Your trust and confidence is very important to us. As part of our S.A.A.F.E. Promise™
to you, we provide GC/MS (Gas Chromatography / Mass Spectrometry) test results from a verified third party, independent lab for each one of our essential oil products.

For the short term.....
I spray when I go outside BUT I stay out as little as possible- it's too hot and humid here. From the aroma I'm sure it will do the job.

Bug Away Essential Oil by Rocky Mountain Oils
I like this mixture because it allows me to mix up a spray bottle with water and drops from only one bottle of essential oil, instead of using multiple ones for a natural bug deterrent. This is ant and spider season here in NE Arizona plus we live amongst the Ponderosa Pines and the bugs love this environment! I’ve mixed up several 8-ounce bottles and sprayed around all the windows and doorways. I have noticed less spider webs on our deck and no spiders inside since I sprayed.....YAY! It works!

I used the recipe on RMO’s website to make some repellant and it works well. I’ve been tackling weeds and overgrowth in our backyard during this humid and wet summer with no bites since using this blend!

Pleasantly surprised
I used the neat blend to make our natural bug spray and it works great! I used the recipe I found on RMs website. The bugs here are awful, we're very close to the Dismal Swamp so we have tons of mosquitoes, deer flies and yellow flies, which seems to be immune to everything! Works great for the mosquitoes but we do have to reapply frequently to keep the deer and yellow flies away. I don't think most people have to deal with them so this neat bottle should work great under more normal conditions ??
I will definitely purchase again when I need more

Whitney H on Jun 15, 2017
Bug Away Neat
Bug Away Neat
Bug Off!
Bug Off!
BEST ANSWER: The difference is in the ingredients. Bug Off! is meant to be used topically on adults and contains Citronella, Cedarwood, Lavender, Peppermint, Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus citriodora, Thyme, and Lemongrass.

Bug Away neat is the undiluted version of our Kids Line Roll On that is pre diluted for children 2 years +. Bug Away contains Citronella, Cedarwood Atlas, Lavender, Lemongrass, Thyme.
is this safe on animals? how much needs to be use on a cat around 16 lbs
Emily M on May 15, 2018
BEST ANSWER: At this time, we have found insufficient research about using essential oils on or around domestic animals, including procedures and possible reactions. Because of this lack of research, we are unable to advise how to use essential oils with pets. For more information and references, please email us at Support@rockymountainoils.com.

Thanks!
-RMO Team.
What does "neat" mean in the blends? In the buy section some oils have the option to be purchased as a blend or neat? Not asking about bug off as all the questions on here pertain to that particular one. Just "neat"
Crystal M. on Jan 18, 2018
BEST ANSWER: We dilute about half of our blends with FCO because they have luxury oils in them. This helps to keep the price affordable for our customers. The term "neat" means undiluted.

Thanks, - RMO Team

Can you use Bug Off! on kids? Which would be best to use on both children and adults? And is one more effective than the other?
Miriam on Jul 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Bug Off! is great for adults but Bug Away would be the best blend to use for children and adults.
How do you recommend making this into a spray? For room sprays I use water and 1 Tbsp alcohol. I want to spray this on my skin and use it on my kids (2 &4) as well.

What makes this blend neat?
A shopper on Jun 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Bug Away is the NEAT version or "Undiluted" version of our Kids Line blend Bug Away. The Kid Line Roll- On is diluted to a 2%. We introduced the larger NEAT version so it would be used for adults or in sprays :)

Will this work if I put this in a diffuser necklace and wore the necklace instead of spraying it on myself? (I have 2 dogs that love to lick/kiss me and am worried about them licking me if I spray it on myself and getting sick)
Jenny B on Jul 16, 2019

Can this be diffused outside?
A shopper on Apr 22, 2018
BEST ANSWER: Hello!

You are able to diffuse the oils outside, however, it may not be as effective if you were to diffuse the oils in a closed area. Please be sure to check the foot coverage of each oil diffuser to make sure how far the distance would be.

Thanks!

If I wanted to use this, after diluting, does it only need to go on a small space on the body, or on any exposed skin?
Amanda H. on Mar 1, 2018
BEST ANSWER: The Bug Away blend is intended to be used to replace any commercial bug spray. To be sure that there is appropriate coverage and protection, it is suggested to apply to any exposed skin as you would with a commercial bug spray.

Thank!
