Christmas Gift Wrapping with Essential Oils

Add a little extra magic from the North Pole with these three essential oil Christmas gift wrapping ideas.

Learn how to make your own scented tags and add some fun-smelling ornaments and gift bags!

The feeling you get when you wake up on Christmas morning cannot compare to any other day of the year. Santa has brought all kinds of gifts, handmade and wrapped by Santa’s elves. But it can be hard to ensure that the gifts from the North Pole are very different from the gifts in your home. The kids might question why you and Santa use the same wrapping paper, and why your handwriting looks strikingly similar. We put together some DIY Christmas gift wrapping ideas using essential oils.

DIY Scented Gift Tags

We all know that one of the biggest links to memories is smell, and creating handmade tags ensures that the kids won’t be saying, “those are the same gift tags we have” or “I saw those at Target.”

What you’ll need:

  • Holiday scented essential oils - Ginger Snap, Candy Cane, Christmas Cabin
  • Craft paper
  • Cookie cutters
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Ribbon or string

Directions:

  1. Get the craft paper of your choice, like burlap or any cardstock paper that can absorb oils.
  2. Pick your favorite cookie cutters and use them as stencils to draw the tag shapes. Then cut along the lines.
  3. Place a few drops of oils on cutouts and let dry; We use Ginger Snap for the gingerbread cookie tags, Candy Cane on the candy cane tags, and Christmas Cabin on Christmas tree tags.
  4. Once dry, use a marker to write their names. *If you have the time, you can even find some great DIY calligraphy tutorials on youtube.
  5. Cut a small hole on top and tie around the ribbon; we also love ribbon bows, so I can add a few drops on them as well

Scented Gift Ornament

A great way to add a little pizzazz to any gift is to use ornaments. This way the kids can hang them on the trees for years to come and remember the gifts they received with them. Your kids will love calling out which ornaments were from Santa from years before.

What you’ll need:

  • Holiday scented essential oils - Ginger Snap, Candy Cane, Christmas Cabin, Autumn Air
  • Variety of cloth & wood Christmas ornaments

Directions:

  1. Choose ornaments that match the wrapping paper & ribbons. *A great place to get inexpensive ornaments is the Dollar Tree, but we got the pictured ornaments from Walmart.
  2. Add a few drops of Christmas Cabin to Tree ornament & a drop of Autumn Air to wood ornament.
  3. Attach a ribbon to the gift.

Scented Gift Bags

The worst thing to happen on Christmas is to get a gift or toy that requires batteries or add-ons. Now you have to wait for the stores to open so your little ones can play with their toys. This is a fun idea to add to the gifts to ensure they have the batteries to play with the toy.

What you’ll need:

  • Holiday scented essential oils - Ginger Snap, Candy Cane, Christmas Cabin
  • Small holiday stocking or ribbon tied bags

Directions:

  1. Place a few drops of your favorite holiday scents in the gift bags and let dry.
  2. Add batteries or add-ons into the gift bag and attach the stocking or bag to the gift!
