DIY Sink Refresher

Are you constantly discouraged by strange smells emanating from your otherwise sparkling clean kitchen? Unfortunately, no matter how much you scrub, food particles have a tendency to build up and decompose within your garbage disposal and drains, causing your sink to smell anything but fresh.

Instead of turning to toxic cleaners to get rid of those offensive smells, consider this recipe for a sink refresher that is made with all-natural ingredients and 100% pure essential oils for an effective, safe, and invigorating cleansing experience.

DIY Sink Refresher

What You’ll Need:

  • 2 cups baking soda
  • 1 cup salt
  • ½ cup water
  • ¼ cup liquid castile soap
  • 15 drops Blood Orange
  • 15 drops Spearmint

Method:

  1. Combine baking soda and salt in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. In a smaller bowl, mix castile soap, water, and essential oils.
  3. Add wet ingredients to the baking soda mixture and stir.
  4. Store in an airtight container, and keep in a cool, dry place.

How to Use:

Turn on your garbage disposal, and begin running hot water into the sink to clear out any small debris. While both the water and garbage disposal are running, add about ¼ cup of the DIY Sink Refresher mixture into the drain. Allow the garbage disposal and hot water to run for about two minutes, then shut off.

For non-disposal sinks, complete the same process by turning on the hot tap and allowing the water to run down into the drain. Take about ¼ cup of the mixture and add it to the running water a spoonful at a time. Allow each spoonful to completely wash down the drain before adding another. Let the hot water run for about 30 seconds after the last spoonful, then shut off.

Use once a week for a quick sink refresher, or as needed to combat unwanted kitchen odors.
