Exploring Your Heart Chakra

Open yourself up to love and discover the power of your fourth chakra.

If you have taken yoga or meditation classes, you have probably come across the seven chakras. However, you might not know exactly what the seven chakras are or how to work with them effectively. Chakras are energy centers in the subtle body that distribute the flow of prana or energy throughout your body. Starting at the base of the spine and working up to the crown of your head, chakras influence your overall health and well being.

Understanding the role and purpose of each chakra is a crucial first step in balancing your chakras and establishing the harmonious flow of energy. All of the seven chakras are interconnected; balancing one chakra will create change in the others. If you are wanting to open yourself to love and nurture your emotional bond with others, it is well worth focusing on your heart chakra.

The Heart Chakra

Located at the center of your chest, the heart chakra or anahata is the fourth in your seven chakras. The Sanskrit name translates to “Unstruck” or “Unbeaten”, implying that beneath the hurt of past experiences lies a place of purity and strength. The heart chakra is associated with compassion, affection, and love.

The energy of the heart chakra starts in the center and expands through the chest. This chakra connects the lower and upper chakras, acting as a bridge between earthly matters and higher aspirations. This forms your deepest connections to affection, tenderness, and endearment. This charka embodies your ability to love unconditionally.

Motivated by love, your fourth chakra is responsible for moving love throughout your life. As a healing and unifying chakra, it brings wholeness and recognizes love as the ultimate healing force. This enables you to live life with kindness and compassion towards others and yourself.

The heart chakra is the center of your deepest bonds with other beings. This expands your feelings of compassion, empathy, and respect. When your heart chakra is balanced, it gives you the ability to recognize that we are all interconnected and allows you to not only show love to others but to show love to yourself as well.

Heart Chakra Imbalance

The chakra system distributes the flow of prana or energy throughout your subtle body. Stress, illness, emotional upset, or conflict all can cause blockages or imbalance in your chakra system. All of the seven chakras are interconnected; when one chakra experiences a blockage or imbalance, it affects all the others. This disruption of energy can cause your mind, body, and spirit to suffer.

When the heart chakra is imbalanced, it can cause emotional and physical distress. If you are working on improving your compassion and empathy or forming a deeper bond with others around you, it is important that you open and balance your heart chakra.

Underactive Heart Chakra—When a chakra is underactive, it means that the chakra is experiencing a blockage or is not distributing the flow of energy. When your heart chakra is underactive, it can affect your overall well being.

When your heart chakra is blocked or underactive, you may experience the inability to forgive others or move on from past experiences. When the heart chakra becomes blocked, it often detaches you from your emotions, numbing you from love and compassion.

Signs of an underactive heart chakra:

Overactive Heart Chakra — When a chakra is overactive, it means that the chakra is distributing too much energy. It is working in overdrive and bringing imbalance to the chakra. When your heart chakra is overactive, it affects your overall well being.

If your heart chakra is overactive, it can lead to a lack of discernment in relationships, leaving you emotionally drained. When the heart chakra is overwhelmed with energy, it can lead to you overexert yourself in your personal life, allowing your relationships to become toxic. You may feel ruled by your emotions and overly dependent on your relationships.

How to Balance Your Heart Chakra

Chakra balancing is the process of restoring the harmonious and balanced flow of prana or energy throughout the body. Your chakras are in constant fluctuation. Practicing chakra balancing and aligning is a regular and sometimes daily activity to explore. But how do you balance your heart chakra?

Volunteer — As the center of your compassion and empathy, it is important to not only experience new things but to also put yourself in other people’s shoes and learn how you can help them. Bring balance to your heart chakra by making a habit of volunteering. This helps connect you to the compassionate and empathetic energy of the heart chakra.

Get Outside — The heart chakra is highly influenced by the element of air; getting outside and breathing in fresh air can help restore and bring balance to your fourth chakra. Try to get out of the city and away from pollution, somewhere where the air is clean and fresh. When outside, practice deep breathing exercises.

Physical Activity —  Yoga can be a powerful tool in bringing balance and harmonious flow of energy to your heart chakra. 1. Sit with your shoulders back and spine straight. Relax your muscles as you close your eyes and breathe deeply. Inhale through your nose and exhale through the mouth.
    1. Focus your attention on the location of your heart chakra: the center of your chest at heart level.
    1. Since the heart chakra is tied to the color of green, imagine a green glow at the center of your chest, slowly expanding throughout your ribcage and making the whole area warm and relaxed. Rest in this sensation for 3-5 minutes.
  1. When you are ready, slowly open your eyes. You may follow with positive affirmations.

I am glad you have put oil blends for various conditions together. Do you have a blend for the pancreas to help diabetes or for blood circulation?
