5 Oils To Boost Your Summer BBQ
The sun is shining, the air is warm, and the nights are longer. You know what that means? You've got it — summer evening barbecues! Whether you're grilling up some veggies, pizza, or meat for your family and friends, it's time to get out on the patio for some fun and tasty food!
BBQ's are great on their own, but did you know that essential oils can help boost your BBQ experience, making it even better? That's right! As you fire up the grill, be sure to pull out some essential oils, too.
Here are 5 essential oils that you can use to boost your summer BBQ!
1. Citronella
An outdoor summer barbecue wouldn't be complete without...mosquitoes. No matter how hard we may try to avoid them, mosquitoes are great at disrupting summer evenings. If you want to keep those and other bugs away from your outdoor feast, try using Citronella. While this oil may smell pleasant to us humans, the bugs can't stand it! If you want to step things up a notch, try adding Peppermint and create your own bug-be-gone diffuser blend!
Lavender
No summer BBQ would be complete without Lavender! Time spent grilling often means time spent out in the sun. Whether you're manning the grill or playing games while you wait for your food, Lavender can help soothe sun-kissed skin. Try out this simple, DIY After Sun Spray to soothe red or irritated skin.
Peppermint
This minty fresh oil may not be one of the first oils you think of when you think of summer; however, Peppermint is a perfect summer companion. This minty oil can help you stay cool on those hot summer afternoons, or when hanging out by the grill. You can also mix Peppermint with Lavender in your After Sun Spray to support both oils' soothing powers, and to give your sun-kissed skin some extra relief.
Try this Ice Cold Peppermint Towel recipe to help you stay cool under the sun.
What You Need:
- 5-10 drops Peppermint
- Washcloth or Hand Towel
- 3 Cups of Water
- Freezer
Method:
- In a large bowl, add water and essential oil.
- Submerge the towel in the water until it is soaked.
- Pull the towel out of the bowl, and wring out excess water.
- Roll up the towel, and place it in the freezer.
- When you need to cool off, take the towel out and keep it rolled up. Place it on your neck, and slowly unroll the towel as it thaws.
Pro Tip: Need an ice towel fast? Add some ice to the bowl of water, and let the water get cold before submerging the towel.
Purify
Barbecues bring lots of tasty foods, but maybe you don't like the smell of barbecue in your home. If the smell from your barbecue wafts into your home, try diffusing some Purify. This essential oil blend is great at eliminating odors, and while some may like the smell of BBQ, if you don't, Purify is just what you need to clear the air.
Lemon
Adding lemon juice to your barbecue can step things up a notch, giving you a refreshing lemonade drink or a savory marinade for your meat. But Lemon essential oil can give your barbecue a boost, too! This citrusy oil has so many benefits, but it can be especially helpful for sanitation and cleaning. Forgot to bring hand sanitizer to your local park BBQ? Rub a drop of Lemon into your hands to help kill harmful germs. Got some stubborn food stuck to the grill? Add some Lemon to your cleaner to help get it off!
With incredible essential oils like these, each barbecue you have this summer will be one for the books! So, fire up that grill, and make the most of your summer days!
