9 Essential Oils For Cleaning

If you were to walk through your local grocery store's cleaning aisle, you would see rows of popular and common household cleaning products. But if you look closer, you'll notice that the majority of these products contain harsh and toxic chemicals that can be dangerous to use around your home and family.

Toss the toxins and clean your home in a safe, natural way with essential oils! Essential oils harness the power of plants, providing you with an easy and affordable way to care for your family in every way. While essential oils are great for aromatherapy and personal care, try using these nine essential oils to clean your home without worrying about nasty chemicals.

1. Lemon oil

Lemon essential oil is probably one of the most commonly thought of oils when it comes to cleaning, and there's a good reason for that! Not only does Lemon oil offer a fresh, light, and clean scent, but it is a powerful natural cleaner. Lemons contain antibacterial and antiviral properties, and those are harnessed in the oil, which makes it great for keeping unwanted germs at bay.

Uses

  • Keep toilets and kitchen counters clean and germ-free by adding Lemon oil to your natural all-purpose cleaner.
  • Polish wood floors or furniture. Combine 10 drops of Lemon oil with 1/2 cup of olive oil for a natural polish. You can also try this other natural polish recipe.

  • Loosen up tough stains in the microwave. Add 4 drops of Lemon and 1 cup of water to a microwave safe bowl. Put the bowl in the microwave for 4 minutes. Remove the bowl, and wipe the inside of the microwave clean.

2. Eucalyptus oil

With its menthol-like aroma, Eucalyptus is well-known for its ability to help open up the airways. But did you know that Eucalyptus oil is great for cleaning, too? Eucalyptus oil has antimicrobial and antiseptic properties, making it particularly great at fighting off yucky substances that can build up around the home, such as mold or mildew.

When diffusing Eucalyptus oil or adding it to a room spray, you can help purify the air. In fact, studies have shown that Eucalyptus helps fight against bacteria that can cause pneumonia, influenza, strep, and staph infections. So, adding Eucalyptus essential oil to your cleaning arsenal is a great way to naturally keep your home clean and your family healthy.
